Performance Day

Stephen Wortman

John (Fountainhead)

  • Today is the day!!! Our group finally performed and it was amazing!!! I messed up on one line by accidentally saying my name instead of John. Nevertheless I had a great time in the production. It all flowed really well and the actors did a great job in keeping up with the scene and sounding more believable and not so much a script. I cannot even begin to tell how great this group has been and I am so proud of all of us for the putting together a good show.

  • This performance is getting closer and let me say that I really hope that I will memorize the other lines of my fellow cast members. If I can’t remember when to talk, it is going to be a very harsh experience. My memory of my own lines has improved a lot and I feel confident in my ability to say my lines in a way that I feel John is trying to communicate. I am very excited to finally put all this work in action and see how people like it!!!

Rehearsal #7

  • It is getting closer!!!! Our group got a chance to practice on stage to see how we want the stage to be set and if there is anything that needs improving in our dialogue. I was so nervous about not getting my lines right or not sounding convincing, I kept my script with me on stage in case I did not remember my parts fully. For the most part I felt I did a decent job but I am very persistent in learning those lines!! I could tell this group is getting more and more ready for this performance and I am not gonna let them down.

Rehearsal #6

John (Fountainhead)

  • Our performance day is getting closer!! The group is getting ready each time we meet and we’re really feeling great about our performance. My director is doing a great job in keeping us in a routine of figuring out our pace and incorporating the movement we have to include on stage. Getting to see how the other actors are adjusting to their characters is so cool and I cannot wait to perform with them!! Side note, I am pretty sure my character is the most fun to play because of his wit.

Rehearsal #5

Today was another personal memorizing day for me. Rehearsals are getting a bit chippy with new opinions about how the set should look, but I do not think it will be detrimental to the whole production or the purpose of the scene. I am just making sure to carry my own weight and knowing my lines to the best of my ability. I also am thinking of input for how John would be sitting and how his voice would sound if he is going on his second day of sobriety. I will say playing someone battling addiction is very eye-opening and has given me a new respect for those who have overcome their addictions.

Rehearsal #4

John (Fountainhead)

  • Today we got to time ourselves to see how our timing between lines and pauses were and what needs to be modified in the script. We saw that there is great dialogue between the characters Odessa and John when they are in the coffee shop which is great for my character. It was interesting seeing how much longer the scene takes to progress in person appose to on paper. The rest of the group is doing a great job in making sure we are considering the stage movement and coming up with a more narrow idea of how the scene will look on stage. I am really appreciative of the openness of the group and our encouragement of new ideas that can help make the production better.

Rehearsal #3

John (Fountainhead)

  • This practice was purely me and my own thoughts learning the lines by heart and making sure it sounds natural. I have come to learn that it is not just knowing your own lines, but other characters’ lines to make sure your cues are on point and there is no confusion. This is a powerful scene we’re working on, and I am just hoping to play my part (no pun intended) in making sure people can see what this character is going through. All-in-all the lines are coming along nicely and I am excited to rehearse with the group again.

Rehearsal #2

  • Okay now that the introductions are out of the way and the progress is in full-effect, I need to really get these lines down!! It is not so much that I don’t understand the character but more that the dialogue is just not what I am used to saying. I am also watching videos about signs of people that still have a craving for drugs and their potential mannerisms. I really want to do justice by this character!!

Rehearsal #1

  • Today was quite the day. I was not that familiar with all my group members today so it was a little awkward, but I am optimistic that this group will be capable of a great performance. I am given the chance to play a character with a very unique and scary situation, and I hope to do justice by the storytellers. First step is learning these lines!! John is an interesting and desperate character surely to be fun to play. Wish the group and me luck as we start this cool journey!
